The building automation landscape is evolving once again. With the upcoming release of Niagara 5 (N5) expected this summer, now is the time to make sure your hardware is ready.
If your system currently runs on a JACE 8000, there’s an important update you should be aware of: JACE 8000 controllers will not support Niagara 5. To run N5, customers will need to upgrade to the JACE 9000.
The good news? Tridium is offering a limited-time license transfer promotion that significantly reduces the cost of upgrading—but it’s only available through June 27, 2026.
A Limited-Time Opportunity to Upgrade at a Lower Cost
During this promotion period, eligible customers can transfer their existing Niagara Framework® license from a JACE 8000 to a JACE 9000 by paying a license transfer fee, rather than purchasing a brand-new JACE 9000 license at full price.
For example, if you currently have a Johnson Facility Explorer 8000, you would need to replace it with a Facility Explorer FX-9000. Likewise, if you have a or a Distech EC-BOS-8, you would need to upgrade to a Distech EC-BOS-9.
This program is designed to make the transition to next-generation hardware smoother and more affordable, especially for customers already planning ahead for Niagara 5.
Why the JACE 9000 Is the Right Next Step
The JACE 9000 was engineered with future Niagara releases and modern building automation demands in mind. Key advantages include:
Enhanced Performance
Faster processing and expanded memory support more complex applications and larger systems.
Stronger Cybersecurity
Build to meet today’s security standards and better protect your building data.
Niagara 5 Compatibility
The JACE 9000 fully supports Niagara 5, and you’ll be able to purchase an N4-to-N5 upgrade when it becomes available.
Seamless Migration
Existing licenses and configurations can be transferred with minimal disruption to non-proprietary licenses.
Upgrading now helps ensure your system remains supported, secure, and ready for future innovation.
How Your SMA Plays a Key Role
An active Software Maintenence Agreement (SMA) is required to participate in the license transfer promotion—but it also delivers added value.
With an active SMA:
- You already receive access to the latest Niagara Framework® releases
- Your SMA expiration date carries over after the license transfer
- You unlock the ability to move you license forward to the JACE 9000
In short, you SMA helps future-proof your system—not just your software, but your hardware as well.
Promotion Requirements at a Glance
To qualify for the JACE 8000 to 9000 license transfer program, the following conditions must be met:
- Eligible hardware: JACE 8000 or JACE 834
- An active SMA at the time of transfer
- Purchase of an unlicensed JACE 9000 controller and SD card
- A license transfer fee applies
- Promotion available for hardware purchased and allocated for replacement by June 27, 2026
